Colombo : Death toll in Sri Lanka's floods and heavy rains over the last two days has risen to 15, relief officials said Friday.
Heavy rains lashed the capital Colombo and provinces since Thursday morning causing waterlogged roads and even landslides in some areas.
Officials said 10 people were killed Friday and five Thursday.
Of the 15 people killed, four are from the capital Colombo and 11 from Southern Province and other parts of Western Province.
Officials said, drowning and electrocuting due to power lines being brought down by heavy rains and gutsy winds caused most of the deaths.
The meteorological department said that Colombo had experienced 121 millimetres of rain for two hours since 6 a.m. local time Thursday.
More rain was expected due to a low depression in the Bay of Bengal, said the meteorological department.
