Patna : Three political activists have been killed in separate incidents in Bihar, the police said.

The victims were Anand Mohan Singh, a district secretary of the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M), Paramhans Kharwar of the Communist Party of India-Marxist Leninist (CPI-ML) and Omprakash Jaiswal of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD).

A criminal gang Friday shot dead Jaiswal, a village official of Mairwa block in Siwan district, at his office after he refused to withdraw his bid for a road construction project, police said.

Anand Mohan Singh of the CPI-M was gunned down at his house in Nawgachia.

In a third incident, Kharwar and his wife Sarita were shot dead by unidentified criminals at Dehri-on-Sone in Rohtas district. The criminals beheaded Pramhans.

Businessmen, contractors and traders are soft targets of criminals in the state. Hardly a day passes without reports of looting, abduction, extortion and killings.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had promised to make Bihar crime free within three months of taking power in November 2005.
