Dhaka : Bangladesh captain Habibul Bashar Sunday announced that he was stepping down from the post in the shorter version of the game, but said that he would be available as a player.

"I have made up my mind. I don't want to be the captain of the one-day side any more," Bashar said at a press conference after India defeated Bangladesh by an innings and 239 runs in the second and final Test here to clinch the series 1-0.

"I will, however, be available for the one-day squad. If they want me in the squad, I will definitely play," said the batsman who has not been in form lately.

He has already said that the series against India, which Bangladesh lost 0-2, was his last at home, as no more one-day internationals (ODIs) are scheduled this year. He will, however, continue to play ODIs abroad.

Bashar captained Bangladesh in 69 ODIs and won 29. One of the highlights of his tenure was the surprise win over India in the World Cup in the West Indies recently.
