Tehran : Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad Thursday warned the European Union (EU) of economic consequences if the EU followed the United States policies and joined sanctions against Iran, Fars news agency reported.
“If (the EU) wants to cooperate with the enemy (the US), we would consider this as an unfriendly act and will show the appropriate reaction,” Ahmadinejad said during the inauguration ceremony of a petrochemical complex in southern Iran.
“You (EU) are well aware what would happen to economic calculations if we made a serous turn,” the Iranian president added, without giving further details.
Washington accuses Tehran of developing nuclear weapons and last week imposed the harshest sanctions against Iran since 1979. Washington has also not fully ruled out military options against the Islamic state.
While the US and France push for tougher actions against Iran for not fulfilling the United Nations Security Council demand to suspend uranium enrichment, some other European countries have preferred to wait for the latest International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) report to be issued later this month.
Ahmadinejad has again in recent days stressed that Iran would not give in to threats and intimidation, and would continue its nuclear programmes, including the enrichment process.
