London : European Union (EU) foreign policy chief Javier Solana and chief Iranian nuclear negotiator Saeed Jalili met here Friday for talks on Tehran’s nuclear issue.
The talks, the last before Solana is due to report to the UN on the issue, are regarded as crucial as their outcome could trigger further pressure for sanctions from the US government and its allies.
Reports ahead of the meeting at Lancaster House in Central London said Jalili would present “new ideas and initiatives” to break the deadlock over the nuclear issue.
However, there has been no indication that Tehran is prepared to yield to western demands to suspend uranium enrichment.
Iran insists its nuclear programme is for peaceful purposes.
