New Delhi : Virender Sehwag, now trying to stage a comeback to the Indian one-day and Test teams, was given the annual Madhav Gourav Ratna Award, named after former cricket board president Madhavrao Scindia, here Saturday.
Besides Sehwag, woman cricketer Amita Sharma and former India off-spinner Sarandeep Singh, who represented Punjab, Delhi and Himachal Pradesh, were the other winners in the ‘Outstanding Cricketers’ category.
Delhi pace spearhead Ishant Sharma, who made his Test debut in Bangladesh in May, Suresh Raina of Uttar Pradesh who has been in and out of the national team and promising Virat Kohli of Delhi were among the nine recipients of the ‘Achievers’ Award’.
Three coaches, including former Haryana player and coach Sarkar Talwar and Ishant’s coach Sarwan Kumar were given awards for their service to the game.
The awards were present by Jyotiraditya Scindia, son of the late Congress leader, at a function.
