Washington, Oct 6 (Prensa Latina) The Pentagon blamed US Blackwater agency for the arbitrary killing of 17 Iraqi civilians in Baghdad on September 16, the Washington Post revealed on Friday.
Quoting a top ranking military officer, The Post said that military reports called the reaction of Blackwater guards disproportionate and wrong.
“The shot civilians had no guns to respond the Blackwater guards fire. Neither Iraqi police nor local security forces should have shot at them,” said the source who remained anonymous.
The daily emphasizes that the army investigations support the version of the Iraqi government, which accused Blackwater of starting the shooting.
The spokesman of the Department of State, Sean McCormack, announced this week that Blackwater guards involved in the Sept. 16 massacre in Baghdad could face legal procedures.
