Pakistani PM asks envoys to project country’s image in political, economic terms

Islamabad : Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on Wednesday urged the ambassadors to work in a proactive manner towards further expanding and enhancing Pakistan’s relations with the states of their posting in political, diplomatic and economic fields.

The Prime Minister was talking to Ambassador-designate for Italy Tasnim Aslam, who called on him at the PM House.

Aziz said the potential of bilateral trade between Pakistan and Italy presented an opportunity to increase exports to Italy. He said the ambassador in Italy should focus more on increasing trade as well as strengthening bilateral diplomatic ties.

The Prime Minister termed Italy an important country of European Community and said the need is to exploit the significance of relations in terms of geo-political and economic points of view.

He said in today’s world, economic diplomacy was playing an increasingly important part which means more linkages with the local private sector, members of media and civil society.

“Our missions are doing a good job but they will now have to operate in this new paradigm, which is a global necessity,” he said.

The Prime Minister said that Pakistan is playing an important role in the region by striving for peace and prosperity.

He said as a growing economy, Pakistan is an attractive destination for investors.

“We have increased trade linkages with the world and have a large manpower pool which we supply to the world,” he said.

He said that ambassadors should work for the welfare of overseas Pakistanis.
