Some top runners to participate in Vodafone Half Marathon

New Delhi : Some of the top long distance runners in the world have confirmed their participation in Sunday’s 3rd Vodafone Delhi Half Marathon, organisers said here Monday.

Men’s world No.3 Wilson Kiprotich of Kenya will take part in the race along with his compatriot and world No.5 Francis Kibiwot, who will be defending his title.

The total prize money of the tournament has been increased by $10,000 to $160,000.

Among the Indian runners category, defending champions Ram Singh and Pampa Chanda in the men’s and women’s section respectively have confirmed their participation in defence of their title.

Some of the other fancied Indian names include Bhairav Singh Leone, P. Nagendra Rao, Bipul Sharia and R.D. Subba among the men, and Rina Das and L. Aruna Devi among the women.

Around 28,000 people will be participating in the race, whose starting and finishing venue have now been shifted from Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium to the Central Secretariat Ground.

Four races will be held, beginning with the senior citizen’s run at 7.10 a.m., followed by the main event, which would be flagged off at 7.45 a.m. The wheelchair race will start from 8.00 a.m. and the Great Delhi Run at 9.45 a.m.
