Washington : A 15-year-old boy opened fire at a middle school grid-iron football game in Saginaw, Michigan, injuring four people, authorities said.
The county authorities said Thursday that the suspect was being held at a juvenile facility and would be charged with juvenile assault with intent to murder.
County prosecutors will make a decision within five days on whether to charge the boy as an adult.
The shots rang out around 5:15 p.m. Wednesday during half time of the American football game at South Middle School in Saginaw.
A 16-year-old was shot in the neck, another student was shot in the leg and two others were injured.
The 16-year-old is still in critical condition but the other three injured have been discharged from hospital.
Police have not confirmed whether the shooter knew the 16-year-old, but officers said the incident had surprised them.
“(It was) very brazen to do it in broad daylight and near a school function. It’s kind of scary stuff,” said a Saginaw police Sgt. Brent Vanderhaar.
Security was enhanced at the school Thursday, but classes were still going on as scheduled.
