Baghdad : Iraqi President Jalal Talabani and Prime Minister Nouri Al-Maliki have held discussions on the outcome of the recent talks held between an Iraqi delegation with Turkish officials in Turkey over means of ending the current border tension between Iraq and Turkey through peaceful means.
The Iraqi delegation, led by Defence Minister Abdelqader Al-Obeidi, left Turkey Saturday empty-handed after the talks collapsed with the Turkish side after the latter refused Iraq’s proposal which it said were not adequate.
An Iraqi presidential spokesman told KUNA that Talabani and Al-Maliki discussed Sunday overall issues in the country and the visit by the Iraqi delegation to Turkey.
The president said: “We had highly appreciated the endeavour carried out by the Iraqi delegation which discussed the crisis in Turkey.”
Turkey has massed nearly 100,000 troops fortified by tanks, mortars and heavy artillery along its borders with Iraq to launch a possible attack against the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) rebels.
