Shimla : Shimla is facing a water shortage with much of the city going without water supply for the second consecutive day Monday amid the tourist season and festivals.
The bursting of the main water pipeline on the outskirts of the city Saturday has worsened the water crisis. Civic authorities here said it could take them a couple of days more to restore the water supply.
Shimla was suffering from severe water shortage during the past couple of weeks due to the bursting of a couple of other water pipelines.
Against the daily requirement of eight million gallons, the supply has been six million gallons for the past few weeks. But now with the snapping of the main supply line only three million gallons of water was being supplied to the city.
“We are awaiting the release of Rs.20 million from the state government to replace old pipes of the British administration time,” said Shimla mayor Narinder Kataria Monday.
