The rocket hit a tent at the training base, about 1 kilometer north of the Gaza Strip, and injured about 30 soldiers. The wounded troops were taken to different hospitals, a military spokeswoman told Xinhua.

In the wake of the attack, at least 20 ambulances rushed to the base in northern Negev. Casualties were treated at the scene and then transferred to nearby hospitals.

Preliminary reports indicated that Tuesday’s attack would mark the largest number of injuries sustained in a single Qassam attack against Israel.

The Salah a-Din Brigades, the military arm of the Popular Resistance Committees, took responsibility for the attack. Abu Mujahad, the organization’s spokesman, told the Jewish newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth that the brigades had launched two rockets into Israel in the day.
