Cairo : Senior officials of the Egyptian Foreign Ministry held talks with visiting Iranian diplomats here on Tuesday to discuss long frozen bilateral relations and regional issues, Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a press release.
The talks of the two sides were held between Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and a number of Egyptian Foreign Ministry officials, said the press release.
The two sides agreed on resuming dialogue, especially in terms of bilateral relations on the level of senior officials and then foreign ministers of the two countries, it said.
Araghchi’s visit to Egypt comes within the framework of what was agreed upon between the two sides on resuming dialogue and consultations on boosting bilateral relations, it added.
Araghchi, accompanied by an Iranian delegation, arrived here on Monday on a two-day visit to Egypt, according to an earlier report by Egypt’s official news agency MENA.
The talks between the two sides also took up a number of regional and international issues, said the foreign ministry press release.
The bilateral relations between Egypt and Iran, which was frozen in 1979, has witnessed a gradual resumption in recent years.
