Islamabad : President of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Qaid (PML-Q) Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain on Wednesday said there was no proposal under consideration for dissolution of the present assemblies or extension in their term, the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) reported.
The announcement that President Pervez Musharraf would shed his army uniform as the chief of the Pakistani army was in accordance with the aspirations of the opposition, Shujaat said at a news conference here.
Despite this, however, the opposition would not be happy and would keep increasing its demands, Shujaat said.
He said that PML-Q and its allies were not asking for votes from the opposition in the presidential election, but they expected that the opposition would use its democratic responsibility by casting their votes.
“Whether they cast vote in our favour or otherwise, hey should exercise their democratic obligation by casting it,” he said.
Answering a question on the talks with exiled former prime minister Benazir Bhutto’s Pakistan People’s Party, Shujaat said she wanted a “bandar bat” of power, which was neither acceptable to the ruling party nor to President Pervez Musharraf.
“Only a judicious power-sharing formula could be implemented,” he said.
