Tehran : Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad-Ali Hosseini said on Sunday that the Columbia University chancellor’s mistreatment of the Iranian president took place under certain pressures.
He told reporters that the Iranian officials make speeches at foreign universities on a regular basis and is made upon the request of the university or proposal by Iran.
The Columbia University had only announced its agreement with the address of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and did not mention of any other program, he added.
On the recent meeting of Group 5+1, he said, “One or two countries tried to reach conclusion soon but certain states were against that process. They believe that they should follow up the process of Iran-IAEA talks.”
They also believe that bilateral cooperation between Tehran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) should not be damaged, Hosseini said.
The Group 5+1 member states (permanent members of the Security Council plus Germany), agreed Friday evening to wait for the reports of the IAEA Director General Mohamed ElBaradei and the EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana on Iran before deciding on further sanctions.
Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki, reacted Friday evening to the latest statement of Group 5+1 saying all parties should support the recent agreement between Iran and the UN nuclear watchdog.
