Madrid : Different Spanish groups are planning a social meeting alternative to the World Oil Summit to be held in Spain in June, sources revealed on Saturday.
The social movement meeting will spread the experience of researchers and activists about “the impacts of oil companies on human communities and the ecosystem, and the search for alternatives to oil dependence.”
The so call Oil Summit will gather in Madrid around 4,000 directive board members, representatives and promoters of the most important companies from the oil industry.
Repsol, British Petroleum, Total, Shell and Chevron oil companies are among them, according to the report.
In their call, the organizers for the alternative meeting denounced that transnationals “have had and still have a leading role in wars and aggressions against indigenous people and the ecologic disasters.”
They also recalled that oil dependence is based on an irresponsible and unsustainable consumption model.
The denounced that the World Oil Congress has the intention to hide that reality and clean up the outrages by corporations, the huge profits of which make poor the countries from which the natural resources are plundered.
