Ahmedabad : The Gujarat government has decided to set up metropolitan planning committees for the development of major cities like Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara and Rajkot.
The committees would prepare the development plan of the cities and look into drinking water and infrastructure issues, according to an official statement here.
The committee would be headed by the minister in charge of the district, and the chairman of the urban authority, district collector, municipal commissioner, district development officer would be its members.
The urban development authority CEO would act as the member secretary of the committee.
Two-thirds of the elected members of nagarpalika and panchayats would comprise committee. The MP and MLA of the area and president of district panchayat would be permanent invitees.
