The project, which was cleared Thursday, will now be sent to the Ministry of Urban Development for clearance. The BRTS Phase II will cover an additional 30 km.

Despite fears that the first phase of the BRTS project would shoot past the deadline, Municipal Commissioner I.P. Gautam told IANS: “There is no delay in BRTS programme”.

Phase I of the BRTS project is expected to be over by August this year, though there was some worry as the price of steel had nearly doubled, he said.

The first phase of BRTS corridor is from Pirana Bridge to RTO via Shivranjani Crossroads with seven flyovers.

The second phase of BRTS route will wind through Kalupur to Prem Darwaja, Delhi Gate, Dudheshwar Road, Dudheshwar-Vadaj Bridge and Akhbarnagar.
