At least 59 killed, 76 wounded in Iraqi violence

Baghdad : At least 59 people were killed and 76 wounded Tuesday in separate incidents across Iraq, police, security sources and eyewitnesses said.

In Baquba, 40 people were killed and 60 wounded when a suicide bomber detonated his vehicle near the main governmental office of Baquba, police and local witnesses said.

The casualty figure in the blast in Baquba, 60 km north of Baghdad, was much higher than the initial reports of 15 killed and 28 wounded.

Police officers allowed ambulance vans to rush to the blast scene to move the wounded to the hospitals.

In another incident, Iraqi security sources told DPA that another explosive vehicle was detonated near a restaurant in Ramadi city, some 110 km west of Baghdad.

The explosion killed at least 13 people and injured another 16, sources said.

The restaurant and nearby stores were damaged.

In another development, militants attacked a house in Khadra district in the northern city of Mosul, killing four Iraqis of the same family, security sources said.

Three women were among the killed.

Also in Mosul, two suspected terrorists shot dead a lawyer and her sister in front of their house in Tamim district, the sources said.
