New Delhi : Sitaram Yechury, politburo member of the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M), Wednesday congratulated Nepal’s Maoists on their electoral victory.
At a press conference in the parliament complex, Yechury said: “We congratulate the people of Nepal for bringing in a democratic government.”
When asked about his party’s response to the victory of Maoists, he said: “I congratulate them. They have given up violence and guns.”
Asked if the Maoist victory in Nepal’s constituent assembly polls of last week will have an impact on Indian Maoists, the politburo member said: “Indian Maoists should answer that. I cannot do so.
“We have been trying to convince them (Indian Maoists) to join the mainstream.”
