Mumbai : The Indian equities market was trading firm in the afternoon trade. Banking stocks rallied and IT stocks remained firm, while metal and power stocks went up. All the sector indices on BSE were positive.
Asian markets, which opened before the Indian market, were mostly in green.
At 1.30 p.m., the 30-share sensitive index of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) was up 252.75 points or 1.53 percent at 16,496.94. The Sensex gained 326.38 points at the day’s high of 16,570.57, which it hit in early afternoon trade.
At the same time, the S&P CNX Nifty was up 66.4 points or 1.36 percent at 4953.70.
