Troops with support from the US-led coalition forces have arrested a dozen Taliban insurgents in operations in Khost province in the east and Nimroz province in the southwest, a statement from the US-led coalition forces said Thursday.

The military operations were carried out Wednesday.

Many documents, including an improvised explosive device (IED), that prove their links with terrorist organisations, have been recovered from their possession, the statement said.

Earlier, the interior ministry said in a statement that a top Taliban rebel, Mullah Torjan, who was involved in carrying out subversive activities in southern Afghanistan was captured Wednesday in Uruzgan province.

The statement said law enforcement had been tracking Torjan for the past two years and finally got hold of him Wednesday.

More than 400 people have been killed, mostly civilians, in Taliban-related violence so far this year.
