According to eyewitnesses, the US Air Force incursion targeted Basra’s Hayaniya neigborhood early Wednesday.

That area was the scene of fierce clashes between the occupation forces and the Mahdi Army, loyal to clergyman Muqtada al Sader, late last month, which left about 300 dead and hundreds of wounded.

Meanwhile, oficial sources announced that the government reached an agreement with the Iraqi Consensus Front, main Sunni group, so that it can return to the Executive, of which its ministers withdrew last year.

Voices of Iraq news agency quoted government spokesman Ali al Dabag as saying that both parties came to a deal on Tuesday evening for the ICF return to the cabinet of Prime Minister Nuri al Maliki.

Also Wednesday, the US Central Command confirmed in Iraq the death of at least three of its soldiers in the last 48 hours by resistance attacks, but no further details were provided.

Washington has lost 25 servicemen so far this month, bringing the number of US soldiers killed in Iraq since the war began in March 2003 to 403, according to Pentagon sources.
