New Delhi : Rajasthan Royals might be the most underrated side in the Indian Premier League (IPL) without big stars, but Delhi Daredevils’ Gautam Gambhir does not want to undermine any team in the Twenty20 league.
“Twenty20 is a different ball game and it is so short that before you can think of your next move the match is over. No team in the IPL is weak. Every team has their strengths,” said Gambhir after the practice session Daredevils open their campaign in the Royals at the refurbished Feroze Shah Kotla Saturday.
Gambhir also added that the experience of playing alongside his captain Virender Sehwag would stand him in good stead.
“Viru (Sehwag) and I have played lot together and we have a good understanding, will help us,” said Gambhir.
He also added that he was looking forward to open the innings for his teams as he had done well in the past up the order. “I have always opened in Twenty20 and done well, so I am looking forward to open the innings here too.”
For another Daredevils’ player Tillekaratne Dilshan it has been an exciting experience sharing the dressing room with players from different countries.
“This is a new concept and sharing the dressing room with players of different countries have been a pleasurable experience. But I am looking forward to the game, because I am here to play some good cricket.”
T.A. Sekar, chief of Daredevils’ cricket operations, expressed his happiness over the way the team has shaped up. “We know where we stand after couple of weeks of practice. Our boys are in fine shape and we will put up a good show.”
Sekar also said that Shoaib Malik, Mohammed Asif and A.B. de Villiers would be unavailable for the opener.
