Prime minister to give away awards to civil servants

New Delhi : Prime Minister Manomohan Singh will give away awards for excellence in public administration here Monday on the occasion of the third Civil Services Day.

The government observes April 21 every year as Civil Services Day as an occasion for the civil servants – officers of the central and state governments – to recognise their extraordinary innovative work.

According to the organisers, the event to be held here at Vigyan Bhavan will be inaugurated by the prime minister. The first Civil Service Day was organized in 2006.

On the occasion, a book titled “Splendour in the Grass: Innovations in Administration” will be released by the prime minister. An exhibition depicting innovations in administrations is also being put-up.

The event would also display books written by civil servants, said officials.

A film “Making a Difference”, reflecting the significant achievements of Indian civil services, will be screened. Besides, a commemorative postal stamp will be released.
