By IRNA,
Tehran : Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad-Ali Hosseini, here on Sunday regretted that the US forces still continue their illegal detention of Iranian diplomats in Iraq.
Talking to reporters at his weekly press briefing, he said the US officials have not even given answer to the recent efforts by the International Committee of the Red Cross to make preparations for meeting the abducted Iranian diplomats with their relatives.
Five Iranian consulate officers were taken captive by US forces in the city of Erbil, northern Iraq, in January 2007.
Nine Iranian nationals including two of the five diplomats were released by the US forces on November 9.
Asked about possibility of break up in relations between Tehran and London, he said Iran is not willing to sever ties with any country in the world.
As to British cultural activities in Iran, Hosseini stressed that such activities should be carried out in coordination with the Foreign Ministry.
Dismissing the recent US and British accusations against Iran’s peaceful nuclear activities as baseless, Hosseini stressed that the Islamic Republic of Iran would not stop its peaceful nuclear program.
The stance taken by the US President George Bush and British Prime Minister Gordon Brown on Iran’s nuclear activities is not compatible with the reality about its activities, the Foreign Ministry spokesman added.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran will continue with its peaceful activities,” he said, adding, “No law prevents our country from continuing such peaceful activities”.
Asked about Iran’s package of nuclear proposals, he said, “Regarding the package, we will provide you with the comments and explanations at an appropriate time.”
