Islamabad : A Pakistani lawmaker has launched a project to make a documentary in response to the Internet release of an anti-Islam film by Dutch parliamentarian Geert Wilders, a media reports said Monday.
“It will counter the biased propaganda and spread the true message of our great religion,” Dawn newspaper cited Senator Babar Awan as saying.
The documentary to be released in Arabic, English and Urdu will be completed in about 100 days, the report said.
Wilders released the 16-minute film entitled “Fitna” last month. It mixes Koran verses interpreted as calling on Muslims to attack and destroy enemies of the faith with the video footage of terrorist acts against Western countries, claiming a link between the two.
The film triggered protest by Muslims across the world. Pakistan’s parliament last week condemned “Fitna” through a unanimously passed resolution, calling it “offensive and derogatory”.
The script of the planned Pakistan documentary would be based on research on Koran by renowned scholars and it was being vetted by professional writers.
“As a Muslim parliamentarian I have accepted this big challenge to reply to the film of Geert Wilders,” Awan said.
The film would present the true picture of Islam but would not be meant to hurt anyone’s religious feelings, he added.
