Addressing top commanders of Indian Air Force here on Monday, he said India wanted to create an atmosphere of trust and confidence free from violence and terror in our bilateral relations with all our neighbours.

He asked Indian Air force to speed up procurement process for new aircraft as India’s air power capability has dipped down to its lowest level of just 34 fighter squadrons.

The induction period be shortened and prepare a plan keeping in view short term and long term objectives, he said.

Media reports here said the bidders from US aviation majors Lockheed Martin and Boeing, European consortium EADS, Russian RAC-MIG, French Dassault and Swedish Gripen are submitting bids for sale of 126 multi Role Combat Aircraft worth $ 10 billion.

A K Antony said the new aircraft are badly needed for the Air force to increase its capability.
