New Delhi/Bhopal : Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi will undertake one more “Discover India” tour as he will spend four days in tribal pockets of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh from Saturday, the party said Wednesday.
Gandhi, who started touring some of the remotest and poorest areas with a trip in Orissa March 7, would reach Dindori Saturday and hold discussions with the Baiga tribals in Chada village. He would also attend a panchayat of tribals in there.
“The next day, he will visit the Gaud Raja Shankar Shah fort in Ramnagar village of Mandla district and hold discussions with the tribal leaders and intellectuals,” Madhya Pradesh Congress general secretary Rajiv Singh said in a statement.
“From Mandla, he would proceed to Khatauli village in Katni district where he will address a public meeting the same day and then leave for Kesla village of Hoshangabad district,” he said adding that at Hoshangabad, Gandhi is scheduled to meet social workers and address Sewa Dal workers. He will have a night halt at Kesla.
The third and final day of his Madhya Pradesh visit has however been kept reserved for unscheduled programmes during which he may conduct some surprise visits.
“Rahul Gandhi’s visit to the tribal belt is in keeping with the philosophy of the Congress and its special focus on the welfare of tribals,” Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi said in New Delhi.
“We have seen the UPA (United Progressive Alliance) government undertake some of the most innovative, creative programmes for tribals,” he added.
The 37-year-old MP is visiting various states, especially areas inhabited by tribals and Scheduled Castes. He has already made trips to Orissa and Karnataka. He has been focusing on two of the government’s flagship initiatives – The Tribals Bill and the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS).
