Dubai : Coinciding with the current week-long visit of Oman’s Tourism Minister Rajiha bint Abdulameer bin Ali to India, the latest edition of “Destination Oman”, a leading tourism publication brought out by an Oman-based expatriate Indian, has hit the stands.
A copy of the 2008 edition has been handed over by the publication’s founder Deepak Nair to India’s Ambassador to Oman Anil Wadhwa.
The ambassador said the book captured the charm and beauty of Oman through spectacular pictures and stories that would make it very easy for visitors and residents to enlighten themselves about the Sultanate, its culture and its traditions.
According to an Indian embassy press release, the ambassador was particularly appreciative of the fact that it was an Indian expatriate who has brought out the publication.
Wadhwa said Indians formed the largest expatriate workforce in Oman and many Indians had excelled in their respective fields and had made notable contributions to the development of the country – a fact that has been acknowledged and appreciated by people and the government of both countries.
There are around 500,000 expatriate Indians in Oman.
“It is often a visitor or a guest who could best appreciate the beauty and tourism potential of another country and that seems to be the case here too”, Wadhwa said.
Observing that Oman and India shared a centuries-old relationship, he said the current visit by the Omani tourism minister to India would go a long way in further strengthening bilateral ties, especially in the area of tourism.
