They also warned that the slowdown in achieving this goal would increase the complexities of the situation and exacerbate tension and resentment in the region.

During talks which were held in Sharm El-Shaikh Monday, the two leaders stressed that any solution for the Palestinian cause must be based on the international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab peace initiative for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.

They also stressed the need to intensify efforts to overcome all obstacles to the continuation of the negotiating process between Palestinians and Israelis on all final status issues, pointing out that the success of negotiations within a specific timetable requires creating the appropriate atmosphere.

King Abdullah briefed Mubarak on the discussions he held in Washington with President George W. Bush which focused on rallying the US continued support for the peace process.

The two leaders renewed their support for Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and for the Palestinian National Authority to reach an agreement with the Israeli side leading to the establishment of the independent Palestinian state on Palestinian national soil in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.

With regard to bilateral relations, King Abdullah and Mubarak reaffirmed keenness to boost these relations for the interest of both nations.
