New Delhi : Three men were arrested here for allegedly trying to extort Rs.2 million from a city-based businessman, police said Monday.
Sleuths of the Delhi Police Crime Branch arrested Kuldeep Singh Rawat, 26, Naresh Kumar, 30, and Umesh Rai, 27, for making threatening calls and demanding a sum of Rs.2 million from Mahesh Aggarwal, who runs a factory to manufacture corrugated boxes in Okhla area of south Delhi.
Two mobile phones and a SIM card were also seized from them.
“Identifying himself as Abdul Ansari, one of the accused asked Rawat to pay Rs.2 million as ‘protection money’. They threatened him with dire consequences telling him his wife and children would have to suffer if he did not pay up,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Anil Shukla.
