By Prensa Latina,
Canberra : A resolution to condemn the US blockade on Cuba in this capital on Monday and for Australia to open its own relations with Havana turns a cold shoulder to Washingtons position regarding the Caribbean nation.
The text, agreed in Melbourne by the recent National Conference of the Friendship Associations of this country with Cuba, was given to the head of government, Kevin Rudd, Foreign Minister Stephen Smith, and the US embassy in this capital.
According to the document, Australia needs to open and keep its own relations with Cuba, apart from US influence, and for the good of the two nations.
The resolution calls unfair and inhuman the US blockade on the Caribbean country, and condemns the recent aggression against over 300 Cuban websites as a clear attack against the freedom of expression.
After recalling the continuous condemnation against the US blockade of Cuba at the United Nations, the text demands Washington to end with the longest blockade imposed on a nation.
