Bangkok : A helicopter of the Royal Thai Air Force on Wednesday crashed in Thailand’s southern province of Yala, killing ten on board, including nine Air Force officers and one army officer.
Initial report said the UH-1 Huey Helicopter crashed in a mountainous area in Yala’s Be Tong district, killing three soldiers aboard.
Akara Thiprooch, the spokesman of the Royal Thai Army, confirmed the report. He said the helicopter crashed in Sunat Tanon village, Betong on Wednesday morning at 11:40 a.m. (0440 GMT)while it was on its way to attend a meeting in the 4th Army Region.
All the ten officers, nine from the Air Force and one from the Army, on board were killed.
The exact cause of the crash was still under investigation.
Akara said the crash might be caused by engine’s failure as the helicopter was landing.
