Bhubaneswar : A human rights panel in Orissa Thursday dropped a sexual harassment case against former speaker of the state assembly, saying that did not find credible evidences on charges levelled against him by a woman marshal.

The state government had requested the Orissa Human Rights Commission to probe the alleged sexual harassment by Maheswar Mohanty, the then assembly speaker, of Gayatri Panda, a woman marshal of the legislative assembly.

“The allegations could not be established. Therefore, we decided to close the case,” commission chairman Justice R.K. Patra told reporters here.

Mohanty resigned as speaker in March this year after Panda alleged that she was suspended by the latter when she refused his sexual advances.

The investigations by the police and the state women commission into the case are still on. Panda, however, was not available for comments.
