Thiruvananthapuram : Travel agents in Kerala dealing with air ticketing have decided to stage a daylong sit-in before the Air India office here Aug 26 to protest the airline’s withdrawal of agent’s commission from Nov 1.
“The travel agents, recruitment agencies and those in the tourism sector got together and formed a coordination committee to take up the agitation against Air India for withdrawing the five percent agent’s commission,” general convenor of the committee K.V. Muraleedharan told reporters here Friday.
“On Aug 26, it would be our first stage of protest, and if they do not act avourably, we will intensify our stir,” he added.
“If they decide to go ahead with the withdrawal of the commission, then it will be virtually curtains down for nearly 40,000 travel agencies in the state. Moreover, 300,000 people who work in this field would be rendered jobless,” said Muraleedharan.
