Islamabad : Armed suspected Taliban killed at least nine policemen in an overnight attack on a check post in Pakistan’s northwest, the News Network International (NNI) news agency reported Saturday.
Security forces at a check post stopped a pick-up for routine search in Buner area of North West Frontier Province Friday night, but when they tried to search the vehicle, armed Taliban opened fire at the policemen, the report said.
Nine policemen died at the scene and several others fled, it added.
Taliban also occupied the check post for some time and later locals joined the police to force the militants to vacate the post, according to the report.
