Al-Attiya in a statement quoted by Saudi Press Agency (SPA), and was broadcas late yesterday, Thursday, expressed “deep dismay and concern of the Gulf Cooperation Council” regarding statements by Iranian Assistant Minister of Foreign for Research Affairs Manuchehr Mohammadi against Gulf monarchies”.

According to Mohammadi, the Middle East would remain a center for developments and crises as long as monarchies in the GCC area exist, and that conflicts would not be solved until the disappearance of those traditional regimes.

Al-Attiya said that these and other “suspicious statements” do not help the confidence-building process and the respect of the principle of good neighborliness among the countries of the area.

Instead, Al-Attiya noted, such statements would inflame conflicts, throw the region into a circle of grave crises and seriously endanger its future and security.

Al-Attiya’s voiced the GCC’s “hopes that everyone is aware that the expansionist ambitions and illegitimate aspirations of any power will be doomed to disappear, and it would be wrong for anyone to believe that current regional developments were appropriate for expansion and domination at the expense of the interests of others.” He concluded by saying that GCC countries “feel very disappointed and deeply concerned about these irresponsible statements and are awaiting an immediate clarification from Iran regarding the Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs’ outrageous statement”.
