Jerusalem : Israel has made a firm decision to build new settlements in Jerusalem’s Arab zone, a few days after releasing Palestinian prisoners.
Authorities of the Israeli government opened bidding to build 447 houses in colonies near this sacred city, 130 of them in the area of Har Homa known as Jabal Abu Ghneim by Palestinians.
By virtue of this, Israeli citizens could build another 317 houses in Beitar Illit, a neighborhood near eastern Jerusalem, which is considered by UN the capital of an independent Palestine in the future.
Different Arab movements rejected Tel Aviv’s measure while assuring that it damages the already precarious efforts for peace, which depends on the return of the occupied territories.
The negotiator from the Palestine National Authority (ANP) Saeb Erekat has denounced that the last move proved that Israel prefers settlements instead of peace.
