New Delhi : A court here Thursday framed charges against Ramesh Chandra, the former vice-chancellor of a Meerut university, and two others for allegedly forging the marksheet of his daughter’s engineering examination to enable her get a government job.
Special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) judge V.K. Maheshwari framed charges against Chandra, his daughter Seema and his associate D.K. Aggarwal for cheating and forgery and for offences committed under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
The court will begin hearing the case in December.
According to CBI, Chandra, the then vice-chancellor of the Chaudhary Charan Singh University, Meerut, and his childhood friend Aggarwal had “dishonestly and fraudulently” entered into a criminal conspiracy to get Seema appointed as an assistant environment engineer in the Delhi Pollution Control Committee.
Aggarwal, the proprietor of an engineering firm, was alleged to have issued a false certificate stating that Seema had three years of work experience.
Chandra headed the university when the CBI registered the case May 2, 2000. He was also associated with Delhi College of Engineering as a professor in the department of applied chemistry and polymer technology.
Chandra, who also the acting vice-chancellor of the Bundelkhand University at Jhansi, was removed from office July 2005 due to the alleged irregularities he committed in the combined pre-medical test (CPMT) in 2002.
