Islamabad : The international airport here was officially named Benazir Bhutto International Airport after the slain former Pakistani prime minister Thursday on the country’s 61st independence anniversary.
Pakistani Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani had taken the decision to rename the Islamabad airport in June.
Bhutto was killed at the gate of Liaquat Bagh park in the city of Rawalpindi Dec 27, 2007 at an election rally.
The government Thursday also named General Hospital in Rawalpindi as Benazir Bhutto Hospital, where the leader died.
