Damascus : President Bashar al-Assad and visiting Lebanese President Michel Suleiman held a meeting at the People’s Palace here.
Al-Assad and Suleiman, who arrived Wednesday for a two-day visit, also held a plenary meeting attended by members of the Syrian and Lebanese official delegations.
During the talks, dealing with issues of mutual concern, they expressed the desire to push forward the standing historical and distinguished relations between the two countries in the service of the two peoples in both countries.
At the end of the meeting, a declaration was reached on the establishment of diplomatic ties between the Syrian Arab Republic and the Republic of Lebanon.
Al-Assad has expressed his condemnation of the criminal act that took place in Tripoli Wednesday which caused the loss of lives.
Issues related to borders and the missing from both countries were also discussed in a very positive and constructive atmosphere.
The talks between the two presidents are scheduled to be completed Thursday.
