Riyadh : Saudi Arabians will observe later tonight a partial eclipse of the moon, which will be the second and last one this year, according to a professor at King Fahad University on Saturday.
In a statement to the local “Al-Watan” newspaper, physics professor Dr. Ali Al-Shukri explained that a lunar eclipse occurred when the moon passed through the earth’s shadow.
Thus, the sun, earth, and moon must be aligned with the earth between them, he said.
He noted that the partial lunar eclipse could be viewed in the South Pole, Australasia (with the exception of New Zealand), and parts of Asia, Europe, Africa and South America.
Al-Shukri said the first lunar eclipse this year was observed on February 21, adding that Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz Science and Technology Center in Dammam would be organizing an observation session at 10:30 p.m.
