Islamabad : Eight deposed judges Wednesday took oath of office in Pakistan’s Sindh province, according to TV channel DAWN NEWS.
The law ministry has issued a notification to raise the number of judges from 28 to 40 in Sindh High Court after the restoration of eight deposed judges, according to DAWN NEWS.
Some 60 judges were deposed on Nov. 3 when former president Pervez Musharraf declared a state of emergency.
The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has been seeking the restoration of all the deposed judges and its chief Nawaz Sharif Monday decided to quit the ruling coalition because the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) failed to restore the judges.
Local newspaper The Nation reported on Wednesday that the PPP government had finally decided to reinstate deposed judges through a presidential order. However, the fate of former chief justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry was still hanging in balance as it was still yet to be seen whether PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari would agree on his restoration.
