Aviation officials, air force chief discuss airports security

New Delhi : Civil aviation officials Monday met Air Chief Marshal Fali H. Major to discuss measures to step up coordination in air surveillance at airports across the country.

The air force has already stepped up surveillance at the airports following Wednesday’s terror attacks in Mumbai that claimed at least 183 lives, officials said.

Civil Aviation Secretary Madhavan Nambiar Monday reviewed the security arrangements at airports across the country.

Security has been tightened at airports in Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata and Chennai, besides 13 other major cities across the country. These airports have been categorised as “hyper sensitive” by security agencies.

“The meeting reviewed the preparedness of the different layers of mechanism of safety and security at the airports as well as in the airspace,” said an official statement. The officials also discussed the preparedness of the security system in case of any eventuality.

The meeting was also attended by officials from the Commissioner of Civil Aviation Security, the Director General of Civil Aviation, the Central Industrial Security Force and the Airports Authority of India (AAI).
