“Under UN resolution, all countries are obliged to act against terror. Pakistan at this point cannot walk away from its international commitment. India should build pressure on Pakistan through the UN,” party spokesperson Ravi Shanker Prasad said here.

When asked whether his party supports a military offensive against Pakistan, Prasad refused to give a direct reply but said, “the UN Security Council resolution is a coercive diplomatic weapon available to India.”

He charged that Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari’s refusal to hand over 20 “wanted” fugitives sought by India at a time when US secretary of state Condeleza Rice is visiting New Delhi shows Washington’s “less influence” over Islamabad.

The opposition party also called on the government to outrightly reject the Pakistani government’s offer for a joint investigation into the Mumbai terror attacks.

The Core group of BJP is meeting tomorrow to chalk out a “structured response” to the Mumbai attacks and its aftermath.
