Gaza : Israel will partially open on Thursday two of the Gaza Strip’s crossings, which were closed four weeks ago, to allow the entry of limited quantities of food, it was announced here.
Palestinian Coordinator of Goods Entry Raed Fattouh told KUNA the Palestinian side was notified late last night that Kerem Shalom and Karni Crossings would be partially opened Thursday.
A total of 40 trucks with humanitarian aid, medicine, and a substance to purify water will be allowed to enter the strip through Kerem Shalom crossing, he said.
The medicine will be received by the Palestinian Health Ministry, he added.
Another 20 trucks will deliver wheat and animal feed to Gaza though Karni, he pointed out.
The official stressed that the products Israel will let through the crossings will not cover the needs of Gaza’s 1.5 million people, not even for a single day.
Gaza crossings had been closed by Israel for the fourth week in a row despite warnings from international organizations of an imminent humanitarian disaster.
Many of Gaza’s people spent Wednesday night in total darkness after the main power plant shut down as a result to Israel’s banning of the entrance of kerosene several days ago.
On Thursday, all banks in Gaza Strip will close down due to their inability to pay the salaries of employees, amid shortage of cash due to the siege.
Local radio stations in Gaza said the banks agreed to close their doors after a meeting their officials held on Wednesday in Ramallah.
In a joint release, the banks said they are coordinating with Palestinian authorities and with each other and doing their best to pay part of the salaries to the Palestinian authority employees before Eid.
