Dharamsala : Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama Friday reached Poland on a week-long visit, his aide said here.
“The spiritual guru (the Dalai Lama) this morning (Friday) reached Poland, where he will stay for six days,” Tenzin Taklha, a senior aide to the exiled leader, told IANS.
He said the Dalai Lama would attend ceremonies to mark the 25th anniversary of the awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize to Polish labour leader Lech Walesa there Saturday.
On the much-awaited meeting between the exiled spiritual leader and French President Nicolas Sarkozy, Taklha said: “They (the Dalai Lama and Sarkozy) would meet on the sidelines of anniversary celebrations Dec 6.”
When asked about the opposition by the Chinese government to the meeting, he said: “I have no comments on Beijing’s opposition to any form of contact between the Buddhist leader and foreign heads of government.”
This is Dalai Lama’s third visit to Poland. Earlier he visited Poland in 1993 and 2000.
The 73-year-old monk has travelled across the world to garner support for “meaningful autonomy” for Tibet.
In the wake of repeated failures to find a solution to the vexed Tibet issue, the Buddhist leader said last month that he was ready to pass on his political role to Tibetans in exile and indicated that he was ready to choose his successor, probably a girl.
