Ecuador, Iran for Strategic Relations

Tehran : Ecuador’s President Rafael Correa termed Sunday as strategic his country’s relations with Iran, while favored expansion of the military ties and custom house cooperation between both nations.

“Links between Quito and Teheran are beyond trade relations,” Correa said this during a meeting with Saeed Jalili, secretary of the Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) of the Islamic Republic.

The statesman started Saturday an official five-day visit to Iran and has already met with his peer Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, with who agreed to foster better and closer bilateral ties in several spheres.

The two governors promised to examine cooperation potentialities and announced their will to open embassies in Quito and Teheran in the near future.

The Ecuadorian president advocated for expanding links between both states, not only in bilateral political agreement, but also in alliances and several accords.

Jalili expressed the Islamic revolution’s willingness of fostering strategic ties and South-South cooperation, to which Iran is ready to give experience in several fields.

Correa, who is carrying out the first visit of an Ecuadorian head of State to this Central Asian country, travelled accompanied by ministers of foreign relations, oil and mining, agriculture and defense, among other officials and business people.
